opening 2minutes - conan the barbarian

I chose this opening sequence because it is an example of a good opening sequence. At the begining there is an establishing shot which makes us interested in what is happening int he lake front village as it gives us some information about where the scene is being set and lets us imagine whats going on there. Now that the viewer is interesested in the film we are introduced to the genre, action/adventure. Straight away the very manly primitive looking guy is talking about the taste for blood which works better than a child talking about cuddly toys. Another tactic used in this clip to get you interested in whats going on is when there is someone running whilst the guy (presumably the chief) is talking to the young warriors, and a sound bridge lets us know that the scenes are connected, now we know they are connected we are asking "who is this guy?". As soon as a movie gets us asking questions we are much more likely to enjoy the film and become more enveloped into it.
